The Softest Gold of Kashmir

What Is a Kashmir Zari Pashmina Shawl?

Derived from the Persian word pašmina — meaning "made from wool" — Pashmina translates beautifully in Kashmiri as "Soft Gold." When paired with lustrous Zari threads spun from real gold or silver, the result is an heirloom textile that has adorned royalty for centuries.

"The Zari Pashmina is not merely a shawl — it is a statement of heritage, worn as an outfit's crowning glory rather than a simple accessory."

Bhat Brothers' Kashmir Zari Pashmina Shawls are woven on traditional handlooms using 100% pure Pashmina yarn sourced from the high-altitude goats of Ladakh and Nepal. The ultra-fine fibres — as thin as 12–16 microns — create a fabric that is simultaneously lightweight, exceptionally warm, and irresistibly soft against the skin.

Each shawl is finished with precision-woven Zari borders and motifs that catch the light with every movement, transforming the wearer into a vision of understated luxury.

A Legacy Woven in Gold

History of the Zari Pashmina Shawl

Zari Pashmina Shawls have been synonymous with royalty and privilege throughout history. Gold and silver Zari threads — known as Kalabattu — were originally reserved exclusively for the garments of emperors, Mughal nobility, and esteemed dignitaries. Even today, a genuine Zari Pashmina remains among the most coveted luxury textiles in the world.

The Kashmir shawl's distinctive character lies in the elaborate harmony of its Zari pattern — brilliant in colour, luminous in texture, and enduring in quality. This excellence flows directly from the extraordinarily fine under-wool of the Changthangi goat, which forms the very foundation of every Bhat Brothers Zari Pashmina.

Today, Bhat Brothers is proud to continue this regal tradition with a curated collection of Trendy, Traditional, Casual, and Fancy Zari Pashmina Shawls — each handwoven and quality-certified in our Kashmir unit.
