The Art of Kani
Centuries of Kashmiri Craftsmanship in Every Thread
Kani weaving uses small wooden bobbins (kanis) guided by a coded pattern sheet (talim). Each thread is placed by hand, so a single shawl can take months – and a large 2×2 metre piece with intricate patterns can take up to three years, using over 100 kanis.
